South Indian Bridal Blouse For A German Bride

Our German client Stefanie needed a traditional South Indian blouse for her South Indian Brahmin marriage. Here's how her blouse turned out!
south indian bridal blouse for kanjivaram

A vibrant 9-yard saree is the bridal outfit for a traditional South Indian brahmin marriage. And what enhances the opulence of the ensemble is an intricate bridal blouse. We recently got to design an ornate blouse for a grand South Indian wedding of a German client! Our client Stefanie was from Germany, and her future mom-in-law visited Lavender, The Boutique for her custom-made bridal blouse. So, here is how our dedicated team pulled off this trans-continental project!

Stefanie needed a silk blouse for her Kanjivaram saree, which was a 9-yard silk saree worn by Iyengar brahmins on all auspicious occasions including weddings. The 9-yard sarees typically come in vibrant hues of red, green, yellow, and blue and have rich Zari borders. They are draped differently from the usual 6-yard sarees for optimal movement and comfort and are considered the ideal festive wear in the Southern states of India.

Sticking to this traditional theme, Stefanie’s bridal saree was a bright red 9-yard saree. Since the typical 9-yard sarees are not heavily embellished, we suggested a contrasting green blouse adorned with peacock motifs for an opulent look. The peacock is also an auspicious symbol in South India, making it the perfect motif for a designer bridal blouse.

Stefanie loved the colour and patterns we recommended for her blouse. The next challenge was the blouse measurements as Stefanie was based in Germany. Thanks to our seamless measurement profile, we could easily surpass this challenge. We sent Stefanie our measurement sheet and demonstrated how we take measurements on a mannequin over a video call. Thus, Stefanie’s mom helped us take her measurements and sent them to us.

With the design and measurements in place, we proceeded to create the customized bridal blouse for Stefanie. It was a padded blouse with elbow sleeves and a round front and back neckline. We used a rich green fabric as the base material, to which we added the elaborate traditional peacock motif on the sleeves. We also added floral embroidery around the neckline. To further complete the peacock theme, we attached an embroidered peacock wing latkan to the blouse.

The Final Look
_____

The green silk blouse with the peacock and floral embellishments in red and gold looked royal and perfect for a traditional bride. When Stefanie paired it with her red wedding saree, she looked phenomenal in the regal outfit. Plus, despite her not being physically present for the measurements, the blouse fit Stefanie perfectly, thanks to our comprehensive fit profile. She looked resplendent and comfortable in the blouse!

We were glad to be a part of Stefanie’s fairy tale Indian wedding by creating the perfect traditional bridal look for her.
