The Langa Voni, Langa Davani or the half-saree is a traditional South Indian attire that consists of a skirt and a blouse with a dupatta draped in the style of a saree pallu. It is a popular outfit choice for both festivals as well as weddings, and usually two or three vibrant and contrasting colours are chosen for the half saree
Modern South Indian brides these days, however, are opting for new and unique colour pairings for the Langa Voni, incorporating lighter shades such as ivory and beige. These offbeat colours add a freshness to the elegant outfit, and actor Anasuya’s white, grey and peach Langa Voni is an excellent example of a youthful twist to the traditional outfit
Our client Saranya was also looking for an offbeat pairing of off-white, purple and green in her Langa Voni for her wedding reception. While bright purple and green are popular choices for the half saree, the addition of the subtle off-white to the combination was meant to add some freshness to the look
Our designers loved the colour combination that Saranya had chosen for the half saree, and decided to bring it to life with an off-white kalidar skirt with a purple border, and a green blouse with purple sleeves.
The flared skirt was created using Kanchi Pattu fabric and was embellished with leaf and peacock motifs
For the blouse, we chose to create a statement keyhole back and paired it with a simpler round neck at the front. The purple sleeves of the blouse had a green border and we embroidered the border to add more festive bling to the garment
Saranya wanted the Dupatta to be light and easy to drape, so we chose a purple net fabric with small motifs embroidered on it. We also added a lace border to the dupatta to match the blouse
Saranya’s Langa Voni turned out to be everything she had dreamed of and more. The colours complemented her skin tone beautifully and she looked surreal as a modern and elegant bride!
