As designers, it is our honour to dress achievers who are making a mark in their respective fields. This is why we were thrilled when Shraddha Muralidharan, a young activist who was planning a fund-raising activity for the Kerala rains victims of 2018, approached our boutique. Shraddha was looking for a traditional outfit to wear in a video in which she would sing to raise funds for the flood victims. We were ecstatic to be associated with such a noble cause and decided to incorporate different elements of the traditional apparel from Kerala in Shraddha’s outfit for the special video
The traditional outfits of Kerala incorporate off-white and gold with splashes of rustic colours such as deep red and green, along with motifs inspired by nature. We therefore recommended Shraddha to go for a traditional green and maroon Langa Voni, to reflect the rich heritage of the region. The Langa Voni or Langa Davani is a traditional South Indian style lehenga which consists of a paneled skirt and a blouse that is usually in a contrasting colour to the skirt
Our designers picked an olive green colour for the skirt and added some triangular fabric tassels as a detail. A contrasting maroon blouse with a boat neck and 3/4th sleeves was paired with the skirt. Keeping the traditional theme in mind, a peacock motif was added to the blouse as a symbol of the prayer to the Gods to bring back prosperity in the region
The Final Look
Shraddha looked beautiful in the final outfit and the rich hues of the Langa Voni looked resplendent in the video. The peacock motif added a rustic charm to the look and imparted a traditional vibe to the outfit
We were pleased to know that Shraddha loved her outfit so much that she decided to get another outfit stitched from us, this time to wear to the Karnataka Women Achievers Awards 2019 where Shraddha was to be felicitated. Shraddha wanted a special outfit for this occasion which had both Indian and Western elements
Our designers suggested her to go for a gown with a jacket. We created a simple gown with an A-line silhouette and cap sleeves and added an Indian twist to it with a jacket with churidar sleeves in a loose woven knitted fabric. An off-white colour was chosen for the jacket because it is a hue associated with festivities in South India
Shraddha looked extremely elegant yet stylish in the gown and jacket duo. It was the perfect outfit to wear to an awards ceremony, thanks to its classy colour and minimalistic design
It was our privilege to dress Shraddha for both these wonderful occasions and we look forward to her next visit to the boutique!
