Fashion should not be restricted to a particular body type, but sadly readymade clothing offers limited options for plus-size women. At Lavender, The Boutique, we believe that all body types can look stunning in designer wear. All you need are the right customizations in the design. So, when our client Priyanka wanted a custom-made saree and blouses for a friend’s wedding in Chhattisgarh, we designed the perfect pieces to flatter her plus-size frame.
The first piece that Priyanka wanted was a blouse to wear with her green Kanjivaram saree. The blouse material that came with the saree was not long enough for a comfortable design. So, our designers suggested a contrasting blouse made with a rich maroon and gold brocade fabric. The contrast would not only be eye-catching, but it would also have a slimming effect.
To make the blouse more stylish, we added a plunge V-neckline in the front and a round neck at the back with a trendy sash. We also added full sleeves so that Priyanka would feel comfortable and confident in the blouse.
For the second look, Priyanka wanted a custom-made designer saree. The regular saree length of 5.5 metres was a little short for her frame, so we decided to create a 6.5 metre saree for her.
We picked a festive and trendy sequin sheath fabric in a navy blue hue for the saree. To this, we added a contrasting silver lace border for an embellished look. The finishing of the saree was done with satin fabric and cod piping.
Our designers recommended a contrasting blouse for this blue saree and Priyanka loved the idea. So, we chose an off-white rainbow sequin sheath fabric for the blouse. Instead of using just the sequin fabric, we chose a net fabric with silver-gold boota for the sleeves, for a floatier effect.
We added various stylish details to the blouse for a fashionable look. These included tulip cuffs in the sequin fabric at the ends of the sleeves for an Indo-western appeal. We also added a sweetheart neckline at the front and the back to complement Priyanka’s body type. As a wonderful finishing touch, we created a belt with a silver lace to hold the saree’s pallu in place because Priyanka wanted to dance at the event. An added advantage of the belt would be to create a flattering silhouette with the saree drape.
