Whether it is a baby shower or the baby’s first birthday, new moms these days love to glam up for the occasion and with good reason! After all, these events are also a celebration of motherhood and both the baby and the mom should share the limelight at the party. When it comes to Indian festivities such as the Godh Bharai, mums-to-be love to doll up in stunning sarees, because sarees are easy to drape around the bump and look incredibly flattering too. Also, one saree fits all sizes and the mum can wear it post-partum too!
Our client Aruna had picked out a magnificent Kanjeevaram saree for her baby shower in the winter of 2018 and was looking for a stylish blouse design to complement the heavy saree. Our designers decided to add some statement details to the blouse to make it stand out on the festive occasion
We suggested Aruna to go for a blouse that had heavy embellishments and embroidery along with statement sleeves. Aruna loved the design that we sketched for her and here is how we went about giving her baby shower blouse a fashionable look
The blouse for the baby shower was constructed out of the Kanjeevaram saree’s original blouse piece that we further embellished for a majestic finish. We added floral embroidery motifs on the back and front of the blouse along with a keyhole at the back and a round neck at the front
The juxtaposition of golden florals on the bright red blouse material looked truly festive. For the elbow-length sleeves, we created a cutwork pattern on top of a net material because Aruna wanted a more modest look and didn’t want the sleeves to be transparent. To further embellish the sleeves, French knot work was added outside the net
The baby shower function in the fag end of 2018 was well celebrated by Aruna’s family and this year, in 2019, the couple was blessed with a cute little baby girl. Aruna had loved the blouse we designed for her baby shower so much that she visited us again this year, to get another blouse designed for her baby’s naming ceremony, this time for a stunning yellow gold and hot pink saree
To make this blouse look different from the baby shower blouse yet equally stylish, our designers added a ruffle detail at the edge of the elbow sleeves using a net fabric. Contrasting thread work was used to embellish the blouse and a dori with a latkan was added at the back to make the design more eye-catching
A simple round neck and back were chosen for this blouse so that Aruna would be very comfortable while carrying the baby. The embroidery and ruffles were the star of this look and added a feminine appeal to the design
Aruna looked fabulous in both the blouses that we designed for her. Her sarees, accessories, and the “new mom glow” made her look picture perfect at both the ceremonies. The detailing on the blouses truly popped in the photos and added to her resplendence on the special days
