Saree is a traditional outfit in India and it is an essential piece in every Indian woman’s wardrobe. But sooner or later, a time comes when you want to wear that saree but you realize since it’s been worn so many times and almost to every event that you don’t want to repeat it again.
That’s the time when you must decide to revamp your sarees instead of discarding them, especially if its a silk kanjivaram saree. And that’s what our client, Swapna wanted
The sheen and luxe look of a Kanjivaram silk saree never fades away and such heirloom pieces must be relished and preserved forever. Swapna wanted us to design a Kanjivaram lehenga for her made out of her saree in a blue hue with a golden border and splendid pallu. She was looking for traditional wear to be worn in a wedding function
This year in Lakme Fashion Week, designer Sailesh Singhania collection showcased some custom handwoven Kanjivaram lehengas. So, catching up on runway trends, we decided to turn Swapna’s gorgeous Kanjivaram silk saree into a full-circle lehenga skirt with a wide golden border at the hem.
The saree pallu was a contrasting warmer shade of blue with intricate zari work. We designed the pallu into a well-fitted designer blouse and added golden hanging beads on the edge of blouse sleeves adding to the movement of the design. With this set of lehenga and skirt, we added a net dupatta and light blue triangular tassels on the edge of dupatta to give it a unique look and to accessorize the entire outfit a little bit more we added matching tassels on the lehenga skirt & on the blouse back
Isn’t it nice way to revive your old sarees? You save money, you get a new outfit, you make memories and not to mention a meaningful heirloom to pass along
