One of the things that are missed the most by the Indian women residing overseas is the large variety of traditional wear available in India. This is why we are often visited by overseas clients who are on a visit to India, so that they can get all their ethnic wear stitched at the boutique to take back home. Geeta was one such client who was in the need for an elegant yet fashionable saree to drape for special occasions in the US. She had failed to find the perfect saree in her homeland and therefore came to us during her trip to India. Here is how we customized each detail of this special saree as per Geeta’s taste and the latest trends
Half and half sarees first made an appearance on the runways a few years back and have become a staple for saree lovers across the country ever since. Inspired by the South Indian half sarees, the half and half saree is actually just one piece of fabric unlike the former but with two distinct patterns and colours adorning the two halves of the fabric
The contrast between the pallu portion and the rest of the saree gives it the illusion of a separate chunni being draped as the pallu. Ace designers such as Manish Malhotra have brought out collections of stunning half and half sarees, and we too took inspiration from this trend for Geeta’s party wear saree

Our designers chose georgette as the fabric for Geeta’s saree because it is a light-weight yet sturdy material that drapes beautifully. We picked a bright green colour for the pallu portion of the saree and as the contrasting colour, we chose an off-white georgette for the waist area
Instead of opting for a simple border, we decided to attach a printed georgette fabric with black and gold borders at both ends to the off-white fabric. In this manner, we elevated the standard design of a half-and-half saree to the next level by adding a spectacular detail to the border as the third design element
Since the designer saree was made out of light-weight georgette, we opted for a velvet material for the blouse to add the richness to the outfit. A black velvet blouse with a gold print was designed to match the border of the saree. As there were a lot of prints and colours in the outfit already, the design of the blouse was kept simple with a round neck and full sleeves
The Final Look
Geeta had wanted something that was timeless yet modern and suitable for a variety of occasions, and we managed to create a designer saree that ticked all the right boxes! The bright green pallu added a festive pop to the saree whereas the offwhite georgette imparted elegance to the look. The star of the outfit was the lower printed black fabric that gave the saree an old-world charm that tied up completely with the magnificent velvet blouse. Geeta looked chic and elegant in the saree and ready to be the head-turner at the next party!
